Strap retrofitting /Dock Repairs & Roof Coating

STRAP RETROFIT SERVICES

The goal of a strap retrofit is to enhance the roof-to-wall attachment by creating a stronger, continuous load path from the roof to the foundation. This typically involves:

  1. Assessment: A professional will inspect the existing roof-to-wall connections, usually from the attic or by removing small sections of soffit (the underside of the eaves).
  2. Installation/Upgrade of Straps:
    • Adding New Straps: For homes with only toenailing, new metal hurricane clips or straps (made of galvanized steel or other strong materials) are installed to securely connect each roof truss or rafter to the wall top plate, and often down into the wall studs.
    • "Third Nail" Retrofit: For homes that already have hurricane clips but only two nails per clip, a "third nail" is added to each existing clip to meet modern code standards and provide stronger resistance. This is a very common and effective retrofit.

 BENEFITS OF STRAP RETROFIT SERVICE

  •  Enhanced Wind Resistance
  •  Lower Homeowners Insurance Premiums
  •  Compliance with Building Codes

 Dock & Seawall Repairs
Professional Inspection: The first step is to have a licensed marine contractor or a specialized dock inspection service assess the damage. They will thoroughly examine all components, including those underwater, to identify the root cause and extent of the problem. They can provide an unbiased assessment of what needs repair vs. what might need replacement.
